Charles Wright Academy, Director of International Programs
Ann currently works as the Director of International Programs at Charles Wright Academy, and is a freelance writer for the Kitsap Sun. Her career in education has included both teaching and serving as an administrator at public and independent schools. Ann has held communications and marketing roles at Safeco Insurance, and was Vice President of Marketing for Kitsap Credit Union. She has a Bachelor of Arts in English and Communications from the Lewis and Clark College and a Master of Arts in Technical Writing and Communications from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute.
She has served on several boards and strategic planning committees including the Silverdale Rotary Club, Literacy Council of Kitsap, and Silverwood School.
Ann has traveled extensively and lived overseas: she was an exchange student in Iran, an overland traveler across Pakistan and Afghanistan, a “Europe on $5 a Day backpacker,” and a Peace Corps volunteer in the Sultanate of Oman.
Among Ann’s earliest memories are being taught to read at age three by her father and checking out books at the public library with her parents. She developed an interest in banned books in seventh grade when her father suggested she read “Catcher in the Rye” and her public school librarian told her he wouldn’t carry that sort of “gutter garbage” in his library!
Ann lives in Bremerton and enjoys spending time with her family, traveling, and reading too many books to count; she continues to meet with her reading group that she co-founded in 1984.
