Summer Learning offers exciting classes, engaging events and tools that promote reading and interest-based learning for kids, teens and adults, engaging the entire family and ensuring each child's success.
Research proves the importance of meaningful learning in the summer so that students don't lose academic ground when they go back to school in the fall. Avoiding the "summer slide" sets students up for academic success.
We still don't know the full impact that this time has had on kids' learning and mental health. Leading into summer, Library staff knew the community would need Summer Learning more than ever. Acting quickly, the Library invested in ways for participants to track their reading and learning goals virtually and they moved core summer programs online. Supporting our community by offering this long-held tradition created a sense of joy and stability in a precarious time. At the end of summer, finishers of all ages celebrated at drive-in curbside pick-up events.
"Our family really appreciated KRL's continuation of the Summer Reading program during this challenging time. It was super fun to drive in and connect with our librarians at the end of the challenge. The decorations and bubble machine at the Bainbridge branch made the moment more festive too! thank you again for always making the summer reading challenge a special time!"
