When Reading Goes to the Dogs

Today we’re celebrating the much-beloved Read to a Dog program and its pawsitive impact on young readers; we visited the Sylvan Way branch to get a closer look.

With two four-legged listeners on hand, the darling, smiling Honey and very fluffy, very relaxed D’Artagnan, kids can practice their reading skills to a rapt audience.

This canine-assisted reading program creates opportunities for oral reading, catching mistakes, and growing as a reader in a comforting environment that promotes self-confidence and a love of literacy. Plus, these pups can't get enough of a good story!

As we reflect on the wagging tails and bright smiles that fill our Library walls, let's celebrate the profound impact of programs like Read to a Dog. While the Library dedicates resources to programming, it's the generosity of donors that ensures our Library mission endures. Your contributions further our Library's commitment to providing enriching experiences for all, so that programs like Read to a Dog continue to flourish and uplift our community.

Thank you for igniting the love for learning in the hearts of our youth, one story at a time.
