Celebrating the Community Behind Kitsap Regional Library

On June 4, supporters of Kitsap Regional Library gathered at the beautiful Heronswood Garden for the annual Friends & Donor Appreciation Luncheon. While Pacific Northwest weather provided a few surprises, it did nothing to dampen the spirit of the afternoon. Surrounded by lush gardens, we came together to celebrate the people whose generosity, advocacy, volunteerism, and partnership help our Library thrive.

The luncheon was an opportunity to reflect on the many ways our community shows up for Kitsap Regional Library. From Friends of the Library volunteers and community partners to donors, sponsors, grant makers, and advocates, every act of support strengthens the Library's ability to inspire curiosity and connection throughout Kitsap County.

In welcoming guests, Kitsap Regional Library Foundation Executive Director Wendy Kile expressed gratitude for the remarkable support the Library has received over the past year.

That belief was evident throughout the afternoon. In 2025, 1,033 donors contributed more than $688,000 in support of Kitsap Regional Library, including 493 first-time donors. Thanks to that generosity, the Foundation provided more than $313,000 to the Library to support programs, services, staff development, special projects, and community initiatives that help people of all ages learn, grow, belong, and thrive.

Guests enjoyed a special video showcasing Kitsap Regional Library in action. Featuring patrons, programs, and services from across the county, the video brought the Library's impact to life and highlighted the many ways community support creates opportunities for people to learn, connect, create, and belong. It was a powerful reminder that behind every statistic is a story and that every gift helps make those stories possible.

Guests also heard from Library Director Jason Driver, who reflected on the many forms of support represented throughout the room.

A highlight of the afternoon was a fascinating presentation by keynote speaker Joe Gaydos, wildlife veterinarian, research scientist, and Science Director of the SeaDoc Society. Joe is co-author of the award-winning book The Salish Sea: Jewel of the Pacific Northwest and has spent more than two decades studying and advancing conservation efforts throughout the Pacific Northwest.

With warmth, humor, and extraordinary expertise, Joe guided guests through the remarkable ecosystem that surrounds us. Attendees learned about the interconnected waters of the Salish Sea, the wildlife that call it home, and the importance of stewardship for future generations. Joe’s passion for conservation and education made for an unforgettable afternoon.

The event also provided an opportunity to recognize the many individuals and organizations whose support strengthens our Library system year after year. Together, they help create welcoming spaces, expand access to resources, support lifelong learning, and ensure that Library services continue to evolve to meet the needs of our community.

As Wendy shared during her remarks, the Library is a place where people come to learn, create, gather, and belong. That work is only possible because of a community that believes in what libraries make possible.

The luncheon celebrated the community behind Kitsap Regional Library, and that impact extends far beyond a single afternoon. Together, we are helping create welcoming spaces, lifelong learning opportunities, and meaningful connections across Kitsap County.
